This novel is a fun read. It chronicles a young man's unique approach to wooing his chosen lady. Keep in mind that Jerry and Jerry Junior are the same book when you are shopping.
This was a happy rolicking story. I had read only Daddy Long Legs and Dear Enemy by Webster. Was glad to find this freebie on .
The story was well written and very funny, but the precept was rather scandalous. The plot is how the boy plots and convinced to trick the girl into hiking him -- funny, but odd.
I adore Jean Webster's books. I've been reading them all, straight in a row, for three days. "Jerry," or "Jerry, Junior," unfortunately, is one of the stupidest books I've ever read. It's only her third book, so perhaps she hadn't quite come into her own yet.
There are elements of her later style, of course a mischievous, madcap girl (considerably more annoying than her other mischievous, madcap girls) and hijinks galore. But it was quite shallow and had more plot twists than the first season of "Lost."
